- Ziklag:
- Ziklag was at first given to the tribe of Judah, but was afterwards ceded to that of Simeon; but as it bordered on the Philistines, if they had ever been expelled, they had retaken it. Eusebius simply says it was situated in the south of Canaan. "And it came to pass,¹ when Davidª and his men²¹ were comeª° to Ziklagª on the thirdª day,ª that the Amalekitesª had invadedª°¹ the south,ª and Ziklag,ª and smittenª°¹ Ziklag,ª and burnedª° it with fire;ª" {1Sm 30:1} + "We¹ made an invasionª° [upon] the southª of the Cherethites,ª and upon¹ [the coast] which¹ [belongeth] to Judah,ª and upon¹ the southª of Caleb;ª and we burnedª° Ziklagª with fire.ª" {1Sm 30:14} + "For he did putª°¹ his lifeª in his hand,ª and slewª°¹ the Philistine,ª and the LORDª wroughtª° a greatª salvationª for all¹ Israel:ª thou sawestª° [it], and didst rejoice:ª° wherefore¹ then wilt thou sinª° against innocentª blood,ª to slayª°¹ Davidª without a cause?ª" {1Sm 19:5} + "Now it came to pass¹ afterª the deathª of Saul,ª when Davidª was returnedª° from the slaughterª°¹ of¹ the Amalekites,ª and Davidª had abodeª° twoª daysª in Ziklag;ª" {2Sm 1:1} + "And at Bethuel,ª and at Hormah,ª and at Ziklag,ª" {1Ch 4:30} + "Now these¹ [are] they that cameª° to¹ Davidª to Ziklag,ª while he yet¹ kept himself closeª° becauseª¹ of Saulª the sonª of Kish:ª and they¹ [were] among the mighty men,ª helpersª° of the war.ª" {1Ch 12:1} + "As he went²°¹ to¹ Ziklag,ª there fellª° to¹ him of Manasseh,ª¹ Adnah,ª and Jozabad,ª and Jediael,ª and Michael,ª and Jozabad,ª and Elihu,ª and Zilthai,ª captainsª of the thousandsª that¹ [were] of Manasseh.ª" {1Ch 12:20} + "And at Ziklag,ª and at Mekonah,ª and in the villagesª thereof," {Neh 11:28}
