the Ziphites:
"Then Saulª saidª ° unto his servantsª that stoodª ° about¹ him, Hear¹ now,² °¹ ye Benjamites;ª will the sonª of Jesseª giveª ° every one¹ of you fieldsª and vineyards,ª [and] makeª ° you all¹ captainsª of thousands,ª and captainsª of hundreds;ª ... Hachilah:
Calmet states, that Hachilah was a mountain about ten miles south of Jericho, where Jonathan Maccabeus built the castle of Massada, west of the Dead Sea, and not far from En-gedi. "And the Ziphitesª cameª ° unto¹ Saulª to Gibeah,ª saying,ª ° Doth not¹ Davidª hide² ° himself¹ in the hillª of Hachilah,ª [which is] beforeª ¹ Jeshimon?ª" {1Sm 26:1} + "And Saulª pitchedª ° in the hillª of Hachilah,ª which¹ [is] beforeª ¹ Jeshimon,ª by¹ the way.ª But Davidª abodeª ° in the wilderness,ª and he sawª ° that¹ Saulª cameª ° afterª him into the wilderness.ª" {1Sm 26:3}

Jeshimon:
or, the wilderness, Eusebius places Jeshimon ten miles south of Jericho, near the Dead Sea; which agrees extremely well with the position of Hachilah, as stated by Calmet.
