- And Saul:
- Saul's enmity now burst forth, in the avowed purpose of putting David to death; and nothing less than the especial interposition of Providence could have saved David's life, when every officer about the king's person, and every soldier, had positive orders to dispatch him. "And Saulª was veryª wroth,ª° and the¹ sayingª displeasedªª° him; and he said,ª° They have ascribedª° unto Davidª ten thousands,ª and to me they have ascribedª° [but] thousands:ª and [what] can he have more¹ but¹ the kingdom?ª ... And Saulª eyedª°¹ Davidª from that dayª¹¹ and forward.ª" {1Sm 18:8-9} + "Wrathª [is] cruel,ª and angerª [is] outrageous;ª but who¹ [is] able to standª° beforeª envy?ª" {Prv 27:4} + "This¹ [is] an evilª among all¹ [things] that¹ are doneª° under¹ the sun,ª that¹ [there is] oneª eventª unto all:¹ yea, also¹ the heartª of the sonsª of menª is fullª° of evil,ª and madnessª [is] in their heartª while they live,ª and afterª that [they go] to¹ the dead.ª°" {Ecc 9:3} + "And they bendª°¹ their tonguesª [like] their bowª [for] lies:ª but they are not¹ valiantª° for the truthª upon the earth;ª for¹ they proceedª° from evilª¹ to¹ evil,ª and they knowª° not¹ me, saithª° the LORD.ª" {Jer 9:3} + "Butª evilª menª andª seducersª shall wax²° worse and worse,ªª¹ deceiving,ª° andª being deceived.ª°" {2Tm 3:13}
