{1 Samuel 14:15} And there was x1961 trembling 2731 in the host, 4264 in the field, 7704 and among all x3605 the people: 5971 the garrison, 4673 and the spoilers, 7843 z8688 they x1992 also x1571 trembled, 2729 z8804 and the earth 776 quaked: 7264 z8799 so it was x1961 a very great 430 trembling. 2731

there was trembling:
"And she saidª ° unto¹ the men,² ¹ I knowª ° that¹ the LORDª hath givenª ° you¹ the land,ª and that¹ your terrorª is fallenª ° upon¹ us, and that¹ all¹ the inhabitantsª ° of the landª faintª ° because² of¹ ¹ you." {Jsh 2:9} + "And they stoodª ° every manª in his place¹ round aboutª the camp:ª and all¹ the hostª ran,ª ° and cried,ª ° and fled.ª °°°" {Jdg 7:21} + "For the Lordª had made¹ the hostª of the Syriansª to hearª ° a noiseª of chariots,ª and a noiseª of horses,ª [even] the noiseª of a greatª host:ª and they saidª ° oneª to¹ another,ª Lo,¹ the kingª of Israelª hath hiredª ° against¹ us¹ the kingsª of the Hittites,ª and the kingsª of the Egyptians,ª to comeª ° upon¹ us. ... the spoilers:
"And the spoilersª ° came outª ° of the campª ¹ of the Philistinesª in threeª companies:ª oneª companyª turnedª ° unto¹ the wayª [that leadeth to] Ophrah,ª unto¹ the landª of Shual:ª" {1Sm 13:17} + "And the garrisonª of the Philistinesª went outª ° to¹ the passageª of Michmash.ª" {1Sm 13:23}

the earth quaked:
"And mountª Sinaiª was altogether¹ on a smoke,ª ° becauseª ª ¹ the LORDª descendedª ° upon¹ it in fire:ª and the smokeª thereof ascendedª ° as the smokeª of a furnace,ª and the whole¹ mountª quakedª ° greatly.ª" {Exd 19:18} + "Andª ye shallª ° hearª ° of warsª andª rumoursª of wars:ª seeª ° that ye be² ° notª troubled:ª ° forª allª [these things] mustª ° come to pass,ª ° butª the¹ endª isª ° not yet.ª" {Mtt 24:6} + "ª Jesus,ª when he had criedª ° againª with a loudª voice,ª yielded upª ° the¹ ghost.ª ... very great trembling:
Heb. trembling of God, "And they journeyed:ª ° and the terrorª of Godª was¹ upon¹ the citiesª that¹ [were] round aboutª them, and they did not¹ pursueª ° afterª the sonsª of Jacob.ª" {Gen 35:5} + "And upon them that are leftª ° [alive] of you I will sendª ° a faintnessª into their heartsª in the landsª of their enemies;ª ° and the soundª of a shakenª ° leafª shall chaseª ° them; and they shall flee,ª ° as fleeingª from a sword;ª and they shall fallª ° when none¹ pursueth.ª ° ... And they shall fallª ° oneª upon another,ª as it were beforeª ¹ a sword,ª when none¹ pursueth:ª ° and ye shall have¹ no¹ power to standª beforeª your enemies.ª °" {Lev 26:36-37} + "And let it be,¹ when thou hearestª °¹ the soundª of a goingª in the topsª of the mulberry trees,ª that then¹ thou shalt bestirª ° thyself: for¹ then¹ shall the LORDª go outª ° beforeª thee, to smiteª ° the hostª of the Philistines.ª" {2Sm 5:24} + "Thenª the king'sª countenanceª was changed,ª ° and his thoughtsª troubledª ° him, so that the jointsª of his loinsª were loosed,ª ° and his kneesª smoteª ° oneª against another.ª" {Dan 5:6}; God will in some way or other direct the steps of those who acknowledge him in all their ways, and seek unto him for direction with full purpose of heart. Sometimes we find most comfort in that which is least our own doing, and into which we have been led by the unexpected, but well observed, turns of Providence.
