- Jonathan:
- "For,¹ [as] the LORDª liveth,ª which savethª°¹ Israel,ª though¹¹ it beª in Jonathan²¹ my son,ª he shall surely²° die.ª° But [there was] not a man¹ among all¹¹ the peopleª [that] answeredª° him. ... And the peopleª saidª° unto¹ Saul,ª Shall Jonathan²¹ die,ª° who¹ hath wroughtª° this¹ greatª salvationª in Israel?ª God forbid:ª [as] the LORDª liveth,ª there shall not¹ one hairª¹ of his headª fallª° to the ground;ª for¹ he hath wroughtª° with¹ Godª this¹ day.ª So the peopleª rescuedª°¹ Jonathan,²¹ that he diedª° not.¹" {1Sm 14:39-45} + "Saulª choseª° him threeª thousandª [men] of Israel;ª¹ [whereof] two thousandª were¹ with¹ Saulª in Michmashª and in mountª Bethel,ª and a thousandª were¹ with¹ Jonathan²¹ in Gibeahª of Benjamin:ª and the restª of the peopleª he sentª° every manª to his tent.ª" {1Sm 13:2} + "So it came to pass¹ in the dayª of battle,ª that there was neither¹ swordª nor spearª foundª° in the handª of any¹ of the peopleª that¹ [were] with¹ Saulª and Jonathan:²¹ but with Saulª and with Jonathan²¹ his sonª was there found.ª°" {1Sm 13:22} + "And it came to pass,¹ when he had made an endª° of speakingª° unto¹ Saul,ª that the soulª of Jonathanª was knitª° with the soulª of David,ª and Jonathanª lovedª° him as his own soul.ª ... And Jonathanª stripped²° himself¹ of¹ the robeª that¹ [was] upon¹ him, and gaveª° it to David,ª and his garments,ª even to¹ his sword,ª and to¹ his bow,ª and to¹ his girdle.²¹" {1Sm 18:1-4} + "And Davidª saidª° unto¹ him, Howª went¹ the matter?ª I pray thee,¹ tellª° me. And he answered,ª° That¹ the peopleª are fledª° from¹ the battle,ª and manyª° of¹ the peopleª also¹ are fallenª° and dead;ª° and Saulª and Jonathanª his sonª are deadª° also.¹ ... And Davidª saidª° unto¹ the young manª that toldª° him, How¹ knowestª° thou that¹ Saulª and Jonathanª his sonª be dead?ª°" {2Sm 1:4-5} + "How¹ are the mightyª fallenª° in the midstª of the battle!ª O Jonathan,ª [thou wast] slainª in¹ thine high places.ª ... I am distressedª° for¹ thee, my brotherª Jonathan:ª veryª pleasantª° hast thou been unto me: thy loveª to me was wonderful,ª° passing the loveª¹ of women.ª" {2Sm 1:25-26}
