Ebenezer:
That is, the place afterwards so called. See the parallel texts. Aphek:
This Aphek was situated in the tribe of Judah, and is probably the same as Aphekah. "And Janum,ª and Bethtappuah,ª and Aphekah,ª" {Jsh 15:53}; It must be carefully distinguished from that near Jezreel, and another in Asher. "Now the Philistinesª gathered togetherª °¹ all¹ their armiesª to Aphek:ª and the Israelitesª pitchedª ° by a fountainª which¹ [is] in Jezreel.ª" {1Sm 29:1} + "Ummahª also, and Aphek,ª and Rehob:ª twentyª and twoª citiesª with their villages.ª" {Jsh 19:30} + "But the restª ° fledª ° to Aphek,ª into¹ the city;ª and [there] a wallª fellª ° upon¹ twentyª and sevenª thousandª of the menª [that were] left.ª ° And Benhadadª fled,ª ° and cameª ° into¹ the city,ª into an inner² chamber.ª" {1Kg 20:30}
