{1 Samuel 3:3} And ere x2962 the lamp 5216 of God 430 went out 3518 z8799 in the temple 1964 of the LORD, 3068 where x834 x8033 the ark 727 of God 430 [was], and Samuel 8050 was laid down 7901 z8802 [to sleep];

ere:
Before sun-rise. For it is probable the lamps were extinguished before the rising of the sun; see the parallel passages.

the lamp:
"And thou¹ shalt commandª °¹ the childrenª of Israel,ª that they bringª °¹ thee pureª oilª oliveª beatenª for the light,ª to cause the lampª to burnª ° always.ª ... In the tabernacleª of the congregationª withoutª ¹ the vail,ª which¹ [is] before¹ the testimony,ª Aaronª and his sonsª shall orderª ° it from eveningª ¹ to¹ morningª beforeª the LORD:ª [it shall be] a statuteª for everª unto their generationsª on the behalf¹ ¹ of the childrenª of Israel.ª" {Exd 27:20-21} + "And Aaronª shall burnª ° thereon¹ sweetª incenseª every morning:ª when he dressethª °¹ the lamps,ª he shall burn incenseª ° upon it. ... the temple:
