{Judges 16:13} And Delilah 1807 said 559 z8799 unto x413 Samson, 8123 Hitherto 2008 x5704 thou hast mocked 2048 z8765 me, and told 1696 z8762 x413 me lies: y3577 x3576 tell 5046 z8685 me wherewith x4100 thou mightest be bound. 631 z8735 And he said 559 z8799 unto x413 her, If x518 thou weavest 707 z8799 x853 the seven 7651 locks 4253 of my head 7218 with x5973 the web. 4545
with the web:
It is evident that this verse ends abruptly, and does not contain a full sense. Houbigant has particularly noticed this, and corrected the text from the Septuagint, which adds after these words:
και εγκρουσης τω πασσαλω εις τον τοιχον, και εσομαι ως εις των ανθρωπων ασθενης και εγενετο εν τω κοιμασθαι αυτον και ελαβε Δαλιδα τας επτα σειρας της κεφαλης αυτου, και υφανεν εν τω διασματι, κ.τ.λ.
"and shall fasten them with the pin in the wall, I shall become weak like other men, and so it was, that when he slept, Dalida took the seven locks of his head, and wove them with the web," etc. This is absolutely necessary to complete the sense; else Delilah would appear to do something she was not ordered to do, and to omit what she was commanded. Dr. Kennicott very judiciously observes, that the omission, for such it appears to be, begins and ends with the same word; and that the same word occurring in different places, is a very common cause of omission in Hebrew manuscripts. "And Delilahª saidª° unto¹ Samson,ª Hithertoª¹ thou hast mockedª° me, and toldª°¹ me lies:²¹ tellª° me wherewith¹ thou mightest be bound.ª° And he saidª° unto¹ her, If¹ thou weavestª°¹ the sevenª locksª of my headª with¹ the web.ª" {Jdg 16:13}
