{Judges 14:15} And it came to pass x1961 on the seventh 7637 day, 3117 that they said 559 z8799 unto Samson's 8123 wife, 802 Entice 6601 z8761 x853 thy husband, 376 that he may declare 5046 z8686 unto us x853 the riddle, 2420 lest x6435 we burn 8313 z8799 thee and thy father's 1 house 1004 with fire: 784 have ye called 7121 z8804 us to take that we have? 3423 z8800 [is it] not x3808 [so]?
on the seventh day:
The LXX reads "on the fourth day;" with which the Syriac and Arabic agree. This, as Dr. Wall observes, is certainly right; for it appears from "And she weptª° before¹ him the sevenª days,ª while¹ their feastª lasted:ª° and it came to pass¹ on the seventhª day,ª that he toldª° her, because¹ she lay soreª° upon him: and she toldª° the riddleª to the childrenª of her people.ª" {Jdg 14:17}, that she wept the remainder of the seven days; for which there could have been no time, if they did not threaten her till the seventh.
Entice:
"And the lordsª of the Philistinesª came upª° unto¹ her, and saidª° unto her, Enticeª° him, and seeª° wherein¹ his greatª strengthª [lieth], and by what¹ [means] we may prevailª° against him, that we may bindª° him to afflictª° him: and we¹ will giveª° thee every oneª of us eleven hundredªª [pieces] of silver.ª" {Jdg 16:5} + "Now the serpentª wasª° more subtilª than any¹¹ beastª of the fieldª which¹ the LORDª Godª had made.ª° And he saidª° unto¹ the woman,ª Yea,ª¹ hath Godª said,ª° Ye shall not¹ eatª° of every¹¹ treeª of the garden?ª ... And when the womanª sawª° that¹ the treeª [was] goodª for food,ª and that¹ itª [was] pleasantª to the eyes,ª and a treeª to be desiredª° to make [one] wise,ª° she tookª° of the fruit¹¹ thereof,² and did eat,ª° and gaveª° alsoª unto her husbandª with¹ her; and he did eat.ª°" {Gen 3:1-6} + "If¹ they say,ª° Come²°¹ with¹ us, let us lay waitª° for blood,ª let us lurk²° privily¹ for the innocentª without cause:ª" {Prv 1:11} + "For¹ the lipsª of a strange womanª° dropª° [as] an honeycomb,ª and her mouthª [is] smootherª than oil:ª¹" {Prv 5:3} + "For¹ by means¹ of² a whorishª° womanª [a man is brought] to¹ a pieceª of bread:ª and the adulteressªª will huntª° for the preciousª life.ª" {Prv 6:26} + "Trustª° ye not¹ in a friend,ª put ye not confidenceª°¹ in a guide:ª keepª° the doorsª of thy mouthª from her that liethª°¹ in thy bosom.ª" {Mic 7:5}
lest we burn:
"And the menª of Ephraimª gathered themselves together,ª° and wentª° northward,ª and saidª° unto Jephthah,ª Wherefore¹ passedst thou overª° to fightª° against the childrenª of Ammon,ª and didst not¹ callª° us to go²°¹ with¹ thee? we will burnª° thine houseª upon¹ thee with fire.ª" {Jdg 12:1} + "Then the Philistinesª said,ª° Who¹ hath doneª° this?¹ And they answered,ª° Samson,ª the son in lawª of the Timnite,ª because¹ he had takenª°¹ his wife,ª and givenª° her to his companion.ª And the Philistinesª came up,ª° and burntª° her and her fatherª with fire.ª" {Jdg 15:6}
