whatsoever:
etc. Heb. that which cometh forth, which shall come forth
shall surely:
"Speakª° unto¹ the childrenª of Israel,ª and sayª° unto¹ them, When¹ a manª shall make a singularª° vow,ª the personsª [shall be] for the LORDª by thy estimation.ª ... And thy estimationª shall be¹ of the maleª from twenty² years² oldª¹¹¹ even unto¹ sixtyª yearsª old,ª even thy estimationª shall be¹ fiftyª shekelsª of silver,ª after the shekelª of the sanctuary.ª" {Lev 27:2-3} + "Notwithstanding¹ no¹¹ devoted thing,ª that¹ a manª shall devoteª° unto the LORDª of all¹¹ that¹ he hath, [both] of manª¹ and beast,ª and of the fieldª¹ of his possession,ª shall be soldª° or redeemed:ª° every¹ devoted thingª [is] most² holyª unto the LORD.ª ... None¹¹ devoted,ª which¹ shall be² devotedª° of¹ men,ª shall be redeemed;ª° [but] shall surely²° be put to death.ª°" {Lev 27:28-29} + "And she vowedª° a vow,ª and said,ª° O LORDª of hosts,ª if¹ thou wilt indeed²° lookª° on the afflictionª of thine handmaid,ª and rememberª° me, and not¹ forgetª°¹ thine handmaid,ª but wilt giveª° unto thine handmaidª a man²¹ child,ª then I will giveª° him unto the LORDª all¹ the daysª of his life,ª and there shall no¹ razorª comeª° upon¹ his head.ª" {1Sm 1:11} + "Therefore also¹ I¹ have lentª° him to the LORD;ª as long¹ as¹ he livethª he¹ shall be¹ lentª° to the LORD.ª And he worshippedª° the LORDª there.¹" {1Sm 1:28} + "But Samuelª ministeredª°¹ beforeª the LORD,ª [being] a child,ª girdedª° with a linenª ephod.ª" {1Sm 2:18} + "And the menª of Israelª were distressedª° that¹ day:ª for Saulª had adjuredª°¹ the people,ª saying,ª° Cursedª° [be] the manª that¹ eatethª° [any] foodª until¹ evening,ª that I may be avengedª° on mine enemies.ª°¹ So none¹¹ of the peopleª tastedª° [any] food.ª" {1Sm 14:24} + "And Saulª answered,ª° Godª do¹ so²°¹ and more¹ also:²°¹ for¹ thou shalt surely²° die,ª° Jonathan.²¹" {1Sm 14:44} + "I will goª° into thy houseª with burnt offerings:ª I will payª° thee my vows,ª ... and I will:
or, or I will, etc. Wehaaleetheehoo olah, rather, as Dr. Randolph and others contend, "and I will offer Him (or to Him, i.e., Jehovah) a burnt offering;" for hoo may with much more propriety be referred to the person to whom the sacrifice was to be made, than to the thing to be sacrificed. Unless understood in this way, or as the marginal reading, it must have been the vow of a heathen or a madman. If a dog, or other uncleaned animal had met him, he could not have made it a burnt offering; or if his neighbour's wife, sons, etc., his vow gave him no right over them. "And if¹ [it be] any¹ uncleanª beast,ª of which¹¹ they do not¹ offerª° a sacrificeª unto the LORD,ª then he shall presentª°¹ the beastª beforeª the priest:ª ... And the priestª shall valueª° it, whetherª it be goodª or² bad:ª as thou valuestª it, [who art] the priest,ª so¹ shall it be.¹" {Lev 27:11-12} + "Thou shalt not¹ bringª° the hireª of a whore,ª° or the priceª of a dog,ª into the houseª of the LORDª thy Godª for any¹ vow:ª for¹ even¹ bothª these [are] abominationª unto the LORDª thy God.ª" {Deu 23:18} + "I will goª° into thy houseª with burnt offerings:ª I will payª° thee my vows,ª" {Psa 66:13} + "He that killethª° an oxª [is as if] he slewª° a man;ª he that sacrificethª° a lamb,ª [as if] he cut off²° a dog's² neck;ª°¹ he that offerethª° an oblation,ª [as if he offered] swine'sª blood;ª he that burnethª° incense,ª [as if] he blessedª° an idol.ª Yea,¹ they¹ have chosenª° their own ways,ª and their soulª delightethª° in their abominations.ª" {Isa 66:3}
