- Ekron:
- Ekron is placed by Eusebius between Ashdod and Jamnia, eastward; and probably the ruined village of Tookrair, mentioned by Dr. Richarson, situated on the top of a hill, and which he says seems to have been a place of considerable consequence, occupies its site. "Ekron,ª with her townsª and her villages:ª" {Jsh 15:45} + "Therefore they sentª°¹ the arkª of Godª to Ekron.ª And it came to pass,¹ as the arkª of Godª cameª° to Ekron,ª that the Ekronitesª cried out,ª° saying,ª° They have brought aboutª°¹ the arkª of the Godª of Israelª to¹ us, to slayª° us and our people.ª" {1Sm 5:10} + "And I will cut offª° the inhabitantª° from Ashdod,ª¹ and him that holdethª° the sceptreª from Ashkelon,ª¹ and I will turnª° mine handª against¹ Ekron:ª and the remnantª of the Philistinesª shall perish,ª° saithª° the Lordª GOD.ª" {Ams 1:8}
