- Engedi:
- En-gedi, or Hazazon-Tamar, was situated, according to Eusebius, in the desert west of the Dead Sea. Josephus says it was 300 stadia from Jerusalem, and not far from the lake Asphaltites; and consequently it could not have been far from Jericho and the mouth of the Jordan. It was celebrated for the abundance of its palm-trees. "And Davidª went upª° from thence,¹¹ and dweltª° in strong holdsª at Engedi.ª" {1Sm 23:29} + "Then there cameª° some that toldª° Jehoshaphat,ª saying,ª° There comethª° a greatª multitudeª against¹ thee from beyondª¹ the seaª on this side Syria;ª¹ and, behold,¹ they [be] in Hazazontamar,ª which¹ [is] Engedi.ª" {2Ch 20:2}
