Eusebius says, there were two cities of Socoh, an upper and lower, nine miles from Eleutheropolis, towards Jerusalem. "And in the mountains,ª Shamir,ª and Jattir,ª and Socoh,ª" {Jsh 15:48} + "Now the Philistinesª gathered togetherª °¹ their armiesª to battle,ª and were gathered togetherª ° at Shochoh,ª which¹ [belongeth] to Judah,ª and pitchedª ° between¹ Shochohª and Azekah,ª in Ephesdammim.ª" {1Sm 17:1} + "And his wifeª Jehudijahª bareª °¹ Jeredª the fatherª of Gedor,ª and Heberª the fatherª of Socho,ª and Jekuthielª the fatherª of Zanoah.ª And these¹ [are] the sonsª of Bithiahª the daughterª of Pharaoh,ª which¹ Meredª took.ª °" {1Ch 4:18}

Eusebius and Jerome say there was a town of this name in their time, between Jerusalem and Eleutheropolis. "And the LORDª discomfitedª ° them beforeª Israel,ª and slewª ° them with a greatª slaughterª at Gibeon,ª and chasedª ° them along the wayª that goeth upª to Bethhoron,ª and smoteª ° them to¹ Azekah,ª and unto¹ Makkedah.ª" {Jsh 10:10} + "Now the Philistinesª gathered togetherª °¹ their armiesª to battle,ª and were gathered togetherª ° at Shochoh,ª which¹ [belongeth] to Judah,ª and pitchedª ° between¹ Shochohª and Azekah,ª in Ephesdammim.ª" {1Sm 17:1}
