At "Only¹ unto the tribeª of Leviª he gaveª° none¹ inheritance;ª the sacrifices²° of the LORD² God² of Israel² made by fireª¹¹¹ [are] their inheritance,ª as¹ he saidª° unto them." {Jsh 13:14}, as well as here, notice is taken, that to the tribe of Levi, "Moses gave no inheritance," for so God had appointed. "And the LORDª spakeª° unto¹ Aaron,ª Thou shalt have no inheritanceª°¹ in their land,ª neither¹ shalt thou have¹ any partª amongª them: I¹ [am] thy partª and thine inheritanceª amongª the childrenª of Israel.ª" {Num 18:20}. If they had been appointed to a lot entire by themselves, Moses would have served them first, not because it was his own tribe, but because it was God's, but they must be provided for in another manner; their habitation must be scattered in all the tribes, and their maintenance brought out of all the tribes, and God himself was the portion both of their inheritance and of their cup. "But¹ the Levitesª have no¹ partª amongª you; for¹ the priesthoodª of the LORDª [is] their inheritance:ª and Gad,ª and Reuben,ª and halfª the tribeª of Manasseh,ª have receivedª° their inheritanceª beyondª¹ Jordanª on the east,ª which¹ Mosesª the servantª of the LORDª gaveª° them." {Jsh 18:7} + "Wherefore¹¹ Leviª hath¹ no¹ partª nor inheritanceª with¹ his brethren;ª the LORDª [is] his inheritance,ª according¹ as the LORDª thy Godª promisedª° him." {Deu 10:9} + "The priestsª the Levites,ª [and] all¹ the tribeª of Levi,ª shall have¹ no¹ partª nor inheritanceª with¹ Israel:ª they shall eatª° the offerings²° of the LORD² made by fire,ª¹ and his inheritance.ª ... Therefore shall they have¹ no¹ inheritanceª amongª their brethren:ª the LORDª [is] their inheritance,ª as¹ he hath saidª° unto them." {Deu 18:1-2} |
