- a long time:
- Caleb was forty years old when sent from Kadesh-barnea to spy the land, and he was eighty-five at the conclusion of this war ("And now,¹ behold,¹ the LORDª hath kept me alive,ª°¹ as¹ he said,ª° these¹ fortyª and fiveª years,ª even sinceª¹ the LORDª spakeª°¹ this¹ wordª unto¹ Moses,ª while¹ [the children of] Israelª wanderedª° in the wilderness:ª and now,¹ lo,¹ I¹ [am] this dayª fourscoreª and fiveª yearsª old.ª" {Jsh 14:10}). Almost thirty-nine years of this time were spent before Israel passed Jordan; which leaves between six and seven for the term of Joshua's wars. "So Joshuaª tookª°¹ the whole¹ land,ª according to all¹ that¹ the LORDª saidª° unto¹ Moses;ª and Joshuaª gaveª° it for an inheritanceª unto Israelª according to their divisionsª by their tribes.ª And the landª restedª° from war.ª¹" {Jsh 11:23} + "Fortyª yearsª oldª [was] I¹ when Mosesª the servantª of the LORDª sentª° me from Kadeshbarneaª¹ to espy outª°¹ the land;ª and I broughtª° him wordª again²° as¹ [it was] in¹ mine heart.ª ... And now,¹ behold,¹ the LORDª hath kept me alive,ª°¹ as¹ he said,ª° these¹ fortyª and fiveª years,ª even sinceª¹ the LORDª spakeª°¹ this¹ wordª unto¹ Moses,ª while¹ [the children of] Israelª wanderedª° in the wilderness:ª and now,¹ lo,¹ I¹ [am] this dayª fourscoreª and fiveª yearsª old.ª" {Jsh 14:7-10}
