- trumpets of rams':
- The words shopheroth hyyovelim, should rather be rendered jubilee, trumpets, i.e., such as were used on the jubilee, which were probably made of horn or silver. For the entrance of the Israelites into Canaan was indeed a jubilee to them (see note on "A jubileª shall that¹ fiftiethª² yearª be¹ unto you: ye shall not¹ sow,ª° neither¹ reapª°¹ that which groweth² of itself¹ in it, nor¹ gatherª° [the grapes] in it¹ of thy vine undressed.ª" {Lev 25:11}). Instead of the dreadful trumpet of war, they were ordered to sound the trumpet of joy, as already conquerors. "Then shalt thou cause the trumpetª of the jubileª to soundª° on the tenthª [day] of the seventhª month,ª in the dayª of atonementª shall ye make the trumpetª soundª° throughout all¹ your land.ª" {Lev 25:9} + "And the LORDª spakeª° unto¹ Moses,ª saying,ª° ... Also in the dayª of your gladness,ª and in your solemn days,ª and in the beginningsª of your months,ª ye shall blowª° with the trumpetsª over¹ your burnt offerings,ª and over¹ the sacrificesª of your peace offerings;ª that they may be¹ to you for a memorialª beforeª your God:ª I¹ [am] the LORDª your God.ª" {Num 10:1-10} + "And the LORDª saidª° unto¹ Gideon,ª By the threeª hundredª menª that lappedª° will I saveª° you, and deliverª°¹ the Midianitesª into thine hand:ª and let all¹ the [other] peopleª go²°¹ every manª unto his place.ª ... So the peopleª tookª°¹ victualsª in their hand,ª and their trumpets:ª and he sentª° all²¹ [the rest of] Israelª every manª unto his tent,ª and retainedª° those threeª hundredª men:ª and the hostª of Midianª was¹ beneath¹¹ him in the valley.ª" {Jdg 7:7-8} + "And it was¹ [so], when Gideonª heardª°¹ the tellingª of the dream,ª and the interpretationª thereof, that he worshipped,ª° and returnedª° into¹ the hostª of Israel,ª and said,ª° Arise;ª° for¹ the LORDª hath deliveredª° into your handª¹ the hostª of Midian.ª ... And the threeª hundredª blewª° the trumpets,ª and the LORDª setª°¹ every man'sª swordª against his fellow,ª even throughout all¹ the host:ª and the hostª fledª° to¹ Bethshittahª in Zererath,ª [and] to¹ the borderª of Abelmeholah,ª unto¹ Tabbath.ª" {Jdg 7:15-22} + "And, behold,¹ Godª himself [is] with¹ us for [our] captain,ª and his priestsª with soundingª trumpetsª to cry alarmª° against¹ you. O childrenª of Israel,ª fightª° ye not¹ against¹ the LORDª Godª of your fathers;ª for¹ ye shall not¹ prosper.ª°" {2Ch 13:12} + "Ye shall not¹ [need] to fightª° in thisª [battle]: set²° yourselves,¹ standª° ye [still], and seeª°¹ the salvationª of the LORDª with¹ you, O Judahª and Jerusalem:ª fearª° not,¹ nor¹ be dismayed;ª° to morrowª go outª° againstª them: for the LORDª [will be] with¹ you." {2Ch 20:17} + "And the Levites,ª of the childrenª of¹ the Kohathites,ª and of¹ the childrenª of the Korhites,ª stood upª° to praiseª° the LORDª Godª of Israelª with a loudª voiceª on high.ª" {2Ch 20:19} + "And when he had consultedª° with¹ the people,ª he appointedª° singersª° unto the LORD,ª and that should praiseª° the beautyª of holiness,ª as they went outª° beforeª the army,ª° and to say,ª° Praiseª° the LORD;ª for¹ his mercyª [endureth] for ever.ª" {2Ch 20:21} + "And it shall come to pass¹ in that¹ day,ª [that] the greatª trumpetª shall be blown,ª° and they shall comeª° which were ready to perishª° in the landª of Assyria,ª and the outcastsª° in the landª of Egypt,ª and shall worshipª° the LORDª in the holyª mountª at Jerusalem.ª" {Isa 27:13} + "Then he answeredª° and spakeª° unto¹ me, saying,ª° This¹ [is] the wordª of the LORDª unto¹ Zerubbabel,ª saying,ª° Not¹ by might,ª nor¹ by power,ª but¹¹ by my spirit,ª saithª° the LORDª of hosts.ª" {Zch 4:6}
