- The life of Moses, the great prophet of Jehovah and lawgiver of the Jews, was exactly the same in length as the time Noah employed in preaching righteousness to the antediluvian world. These one hundred and twenty years were divided into three remarkable periods. Forty years he lived in Egypt, in the court of Pharaoh, acquiring all the learning and wisdom of the Egyptians ("Inª whichª timeª Mosesª was born,ª° andª wasª° exceeding² fair,ª and²¹ nourished upª°¹ inª his²¹ father'sª houseª threeª months:ª" {Act 7:20} + "Andª whenª heª was fullª° forty¹ years² old,ª it cameª° intoª hisª heartª to visitª° his²¹ brethrenª the¹ childrenª of Israel.ª" {Act 7:23}); forty years he sojourned in Midian, in a state of preparation for his great and important mission ("Thenª fledª° Mosesª atª thisª saying,ª andª wasª° a strangerª inª the landª of Madian,ª whereª he begatª° twoª sons.ª ... Andª when fortyª yearsª were expired,ª° there appearedª° to himª inª the¹ wildernessª of mountª Sinaª an angelª of the Lordª inª a flameª of fireª in a bush.ª" {Act 7:29-30}); and forty years he guided, led, and governed the Israelites under the express direction and authority of God. In all 120 years. "And Mosesª [was] an hundredª and twentyª yearsª oldª when he died:ª his eyeª was not dim,ª°¹ nor¹ his natural forceª abated.ª°" {Deu 34:7} + "And Mosesª [was] fourscoreª yearsª old,ª and Aaronª fourscoreª and threeª yearsª old,ª when they spakeª° unto¹ Pharaoh.ª" {Exd 7:7} + "And now,¹ behold,¹ the LORDª hath kept me alive,ª°¹ as¹ he said,ª° these¹ fortyª and fiveª years,ª even sinceª¹ the LORDª spakeª°¹ this¹ wordª unto¹ Moses,ª while¹ [the children of] Israelª wanderedª° in the wilderness:ª and now,¹ lo,¹ I¹ [am] this dayª fourscoreª and fiveª yearsª old.ª ... As yet¹ I [am as] strongª this dayª as¹ [I was] in the dayª that Mosesª sentª° me: as my strengthª [was] then,¹ even so [is] my strengthª now,¹ for war,ª both to go out,ª° and to come in.ª°" {Jsh 14:10-11} + "The daysª of our yearsª [are] threescore²° years² and ten;ª¹ and if¹ by reason of strengthª [they be] fourscoreª years,ª yet [is] their strengthª labourª and sorrow;ª for¹ it is soonª cut off,ª° and we fly away.ª°" {Psa 90:10} + "Andª whenª heª was fullª° forty¹ years² old,ª it cameª° intoª hisª heartª to visitª° his²¹ brethrenª the¹ childrenª of Israel.ª" {Act 7:23}
