- make the rain:
- This was a natural consequence of their heaven's being brass, or yielding no rain; for the surface of the earth being reduced to powder, and frequently taken up by strong winds, would fall down in showers instead of rain. These showers of sand frequently, in the East, bury whole caravans. "The LORDª shall openª° unto thee¹ his goodª treasure,ª¹ the heavenª to giveª° the rainª unto thy landª in his season,ª and to blessª°¹ all¹ the workª of thine hand:ª and thou shalt lendª° unto manyª nations,ª and thou¹ shalt not¹ borrow.ª°" {Deu 28:12} + "Then the LORDª rainedª° upon¹ Sodomª and upon¹ Gomorrahª brimstoneª and fireª from¹¹ the LORDª out of¹ heaven;ª" {Gen 19:24} + "It shall dwellª° in his tabernacle,ª because [it is] noneª¹ of his: brimstoneª shall be scatteredª° upon¹ his habitation.ª ... Surely¹ such¹ [are] the dwellingsª of the wicked,ª and this¹ [is] the placeª [of him that] knowethª° not¹ God.ª" {Job 18:15-21} + "Therefore¹ as the fireª devourethª° the stubble,ª and the flameª² consumethª° the chaff,ª [so] their rootª shall be¹ as rottenness,ª and their blossomª shall go upª° as dust:ª because¹ they have cast awayª°¹ the lawª of the LORDª of hosts,ª and despisedª° the wordª of the Holy Oneª of Israel.ª" {Isa 5:24} + "I have overthrownª° [some] of you, as Godª overthrewª¹ Sodomª and Gomorrah,ª and ye were¹ as a firebrandª plucked¹ out²° of the burning:ª¹ yet have ye not¹ returnedª° unto¹ me, saithª° the LORD.ª" {Ams 4:11}
