- And know:
- Moses seems here to have addressed himself particularly to the elders, who had in their youth witnessed the wonderful works which Jehovah had wrought both for them and among them; and who were bound to remember them for their own warning, and testify them to the rising generation who had not been eye-witnesses. "And it shall be,¹ if¹ thou do at all²° forgetª°¹ the LORDª thy God,ª and walkª° afterª otherª gods,ª and serveª° them, and worshipª° them, I testifyª° against you this dayª that¹ ye shall surely²° perish.ª°" {Deu 8:19} + "Ye¹ standª° this dayª all¹ of you beforeª the LORDª your God;ª your captainsª of your tribes,ª your elders,ª and your officers,ª° [with] all¹ the menª of Israel,ª" {Deu 29:10} + "That thy trustª may be¹ in the LORD,ª I have made knownª° to thee this day,ª even¹ to thee.¹" {Prv 22:19} + "Having²° thereforeª obtainedª° helpª ofª God,ª I continueª° untoª thisª day,ª witnessingª° bothª to smallª andª great,ª sayingª° none¹ other things²¹ than² those whichªª the¹ prophetsª andª Mosesª did sayª° shouldª° come:ª°" {Act 26:22}
