On this side:
"And they possessedª °¹ his land,ª and the landª of Ogª kingª of Bashan,ª twoª kingsª of the Amorites,ª which¹ [were] on this sideª Jordanª toward the sunrising;ª ª" {Deu 4:47} + "On this sideª Jordan,ª in the landª of Moab,ª beganª ° Mosesª to declareª °¹ this¹ law,ª saying,ª °" {Deu 1:5} + "So we abodeª ° in the valleyª over againstª Bethpeor.ª" {Deu 3:29} + "For¹ we will not¹ inheritª ° with¹ them on yonder sideª ¹ Jordan,ª or forward;ª because¹ our inheritanceª is fallenª ° to¹ us on this sideª ¹ Jordanª eastward.ª" {Num 32:19}

Bethpeor:
Beth-peor was a city which was situated, according to Eusebius, opposite Jericho, and six miles above Livias. As the name signifies "the house of Peor," it is probable that there was a temple to Peor, situated in this place, full in view of the people, while Moses was pressing upon them the worship of Jehovah alone; and perhaps the very temple where so many had sinned to their own destruction.

Moses:
"Afterª he had slainª °¹ Sihonª the kingª of the Amorites,ª which¹ dweltª ° in Heshbon,ª and Ogª the kingª of Bashan,ª which¹ dweltª ° at Astarothª in Edrei:ª" {Deu 1:4} + "But Sihonª kingª of Heshbonª wouldª ° not¹ let us passª ° by him: for¹ the LORDª thy Godª hardenedª °¹ his spirit,ª and made his heart² obstinate,ª °¹ ¹ that¹ he might deliverª ° him into thy hand,ª as [appeareth] this¹ day.ª ...
