- Ramoth:
- Ramoth was a celebrated city in the mountains of Gilead, placed by Eusebius fifteen miles east from Philadelphia or Ammon, and by Jerome in the neighbourhood of Jabbok, and consequently north of Philadelphia. "And out of the tribeª¹ of Gad,ª¹ Ramoth²¹ in Gileadª with¹ her suburbs,ª [to be]¹ a cityª of refugeª for the slayer;ª° and Mahanaimª with¹ her suburbs,ª" {Jsh 21:38} + "The son of Geber,ª in Ramothgilead;ª² to him [pertained] the townsª of Jairª the sonª of Manasseh,ª which¹ [are] in Gilead;ª to him [also pertained] the regionª of Argob,ª which¹ [is] in Bashan,ª threescoreª greatª citiesª with wallsª and brasenª bars:ª" {1Kg 4:13} + "And the kingª of Israelª saidª° unto¹ his servants,ª Knowª° ye that¹ Ramoth² in Gilead²¹ [is] ours, and we¹ [be] still,ª° [and] takeª°¹ it not out of the handª¹ of the kingª of Syria?ª ...
