- Hermon:
- Mount Hermon is the south-eastern branch of Lebanon, beyond Jordan. The Chaldee Targumist, who places it at Cesarea and Samaritan interpreter call it toor talga, "the mountain of snow," because of its being always covered with snow; and Jerome informs us, that it lies higher than Paneas or Cęsarea Philippi, and that in the summer time snow used to be carried from thence to Tyre. It is now call El Heish, and is comprised in the district of Kanneytra. "From Aroer,ª¹ which¹ [is] by¹ the bankª of the riverª Arnon,ª even unto¹ mountª Sion,ª which¹ [is] Hermon,ª ... And all¹ the plainª on this sideª Jordanª eastward,ª even unto¹ the seaª of the plain,ª under¹ the springsª of Pisgah.ª" {Deu 4:48-49} + "He maketh them also to skipª° like¹ a calf;ª Lebanonª and Sirionª like¹ a youngª unicorn.ª" {Psa 29:6} + "The northª and the southª thou¹ hast createdª° them: Taborª and Hermonª shall rejoiceª° in thy name.ª" {Psa 89:12} + "As the dewª of Hermon,ª [and as the dew] that descendedª°¹ upon¹ the mountainsª of Zion:ª for¹ there¹ the LORDª commandedª°¹ the blessing,ª [even] lifeª for evermore.ª¹" {Psa 133:3} + "Comeª° with¹ me from Lebanon,ª¹ [my] spouse,ª with¹ me from Lebanon:ª¹ lookª° from the topª¹ of Amana,ª from the topª¹ of Shenirª and Hermon,ª from the lions'ª dens,ª¹ from the mountainsª¹ of the leopards.ª" {Sgs 4:8}
