- Eusebius says that Dibon was a large town, near the river Arnon. Burckhardt says, that when he was about an hour's distance north of the Modjeb or Arnon, he was shown to the ne the ruins of Diban, the ancient Dibon, situated in the low ground of the Koura, or plains of Moab. "Ataroth,ª and Dibon,ª and Jazer,ª and Nimrah,ª and Heshbon,ª and Elealeh,ª and Shebam,ª and Nebo,ª and Beon,ª" {Num 32:3} + "And from Bamothª¹ [in] the valley,ª that¹ [is] in the countryª of Moab,ª to the topª of Pisgah,ª which lookethª° towardª¹ Jeshimon.ª" {Num 21:20} + "And they departedª° from Iim,ª¹ and pitchedª° in Dibongad.ª ...
