Dibon:
Eusebius says that Dibon was a large town, near the river Arnon. Burckhardt says, that when he was about an hour's distance north of the Modjeb or Arnon, he was shown to the ne the ruins of Diban, the ancient Dibon, situated in the low ground of the Koura, or plains of Moab. "Ataroth,ª and Dibon,ª and Jazer,ª and Nimrah,ª and Heshbon,ª and Elealeh,ª and Shebam,ª and Nebo,ª and Beon,ª" {Num 32:3} + "And from Bamothª¹ [in] the valley,ª that¹ [is] in the countryª of Moab,ª to the topª of Pisgah,ª which lookethª° towardª¹ Jeshimon.ª" {Num 21:20} + "And they departedª° from Iim,ª¹ and pitchedª° in Dibongad.ª ... And they removedª° from Dibongad,ª¹ and encampedª° in Almondiblathaim.ª" {Num 33:45-46}
Aroer:
Aroer was situated, according to Eusebius, on a mountain on the north bank of the river Arnon. This is confirmed by Burckhardt, who says it is called Araayr, and is seated on the edge of the precipice, at the foot of which the river flows. "From¹ Aroer,ª which¹ [is] by¹ the brinkª of the riverª of Arnon,ª and [from] the cityª that¹ [is] by the river,ª even unto¹ Gilead,ª there was¹ not¹ one cityª too strongª° for¹ us: the LORDª our Godª deliveredª°¹ all¹ unto¹ us:²" {Deu 2:36} + "The citiesª of Aroerª [are] forsaken:ª° they shall be¹ for flocks,ª which shall lie down,ª° and none¹ shall make [them] afraid.ª°" {Isa 17:2}
