- two young:
- "And in the beginningsª of your monthsª ye shall offerª° a burnt offeringª unto the LORD;ª twoª youngª¹ bullocks,ª and oneª ram,ª sevenª lambsª of the firstª yearª without spot;ª" {Num 28:11} + "But ye shall offerª° a sacrifice made by fireª [for] a burnt offeringª unto the LORD;ª twoª youngª¹ bullocks,ª and oneª ram,ª and sevenª lambsª of the firstª year:ª they shall be¹ unto you without blemish:ª" {Num 28:19} + "And ye shall offerª° with¹ the breadª sevenª lambsª without blemishª of the firstª year,ª and oneª youngªª bullock,ª and twoª rams:ª they shall be¹ [for] a burnt offeringª unto the LORD,ª with their meat offering,ª and their drink offerings,ª [even] an offering made by fire,ª of sweetª savourª unto the LORD.ª ... Then ye shall sacrificeª° oneª kidª of the goatsª for a sin offering,ª and twoª lambsª of the firstª yearª for a sacrificeª of peace offerings.ª" {Lev 23:18-19}; Bishop Patrick observes that no peace offerings are appointed in this chapter, which were chiefly for the benefit of the offerers, and therefore in them they were left more to themselves; but burnt offerings, which were purely for the honour of God, and confessions of his dominion, and which figured evangelical piety and devotion, by which the soul is wholly offered up to God, in the flames of holy love; and sin offerings, which were typical of Christ's sacrifice of himself, by which we and our services are perfected and sanctified.
