- they found a man:
- This example seems to have been evidently introduced to illustrate the foregoing law. The man despised the word of the Lord, presumptuously broke his commandment, and on this ground was punished with death. "And he saidª° unto¹ them, This¹ [is that] which¹ the LORDª hath said,ª° To morrowª [is] the restª of the holyª sabbathª unto the LORD:ª bakeª° [that]¹ which¹ ye will bakeª° [to day], and seetheª° that¹ ye will seethe;ª° and that whichª remaineth overª° lay up²°¹ for you to be keptª until¹ the morning.ª" {Exd 16:23} + "And it came to pass,¹ [that] there went outª° [some] of¹ the peopleª on the seventhª dayª for to gather,ª° and they foundª° none.¹ ... And the LORDª saidª° unto¹ Moses,ª How long¹¹ refuseª° ye to keepª° my commandmentsª and my laws?ª" {Exd 16:27-28} + "Rememberª° the¹ sabbathª day,ª to keep it holy.ª° ... But the seventhª dayª [is] the sabbathª of the LORDª thy God:ª [in it] thou shalt not¹ doª° any¹ work,ª thou,¹ nor thy son,ª nor thy daughter,ª thy manservant,ª nor thy maidservant,ª nor thy cattle,ª nor thy strangerª that¹ [is] within thy gates:ª" {Exd 20:8-10} + "Sixª daysª shall workª be done,ª° but on the seventhª dayª there shall be¹ to you an holy¹ day,² a sabbathª of restª to the LORD:ª whosoever¹ doethª° workª therein shall be put to death.ª° ... Ye shall kindleª° no¹ fireª throughout¹ your habitationsª upon the sabbathª day.ª" {Exd 35:2-3}
