{Numbers 13:21} So they went up, 5927 z8799 and searched 8446 z8799 x853 the land 776 from the wilderness 4057 x4480 of Zin 6790 unto x5704 Rehob, 7340 as men come 935 z8800 to Hamath. 2574
from the wilderness of Zin:
The wilderness of Zin, is different from that called Sin ("And they took their journeyª° from Elim,ª¹ and all¹ the congregationª of the childrenª of Israelª cameª° unto¹ the wildernessª of Sin,ª which¹ [is] between¹ Elimª and Sinai,ª on the fifteenthª²¹ dayª of the secondª monthª after their departing outª° of the landª¹ of Egypt.ª" {Exd 16:1}). The latter was near Egypt, but the former was near Kadesh Barnea, not far from the borders of Canaan. It seems to be the valley mentioned by Burckhardt; which, under the names of El Ghor and El Araba, form a continuation of the valley of the Jordan, extending from the Dead sea to the eastern branch of the Red sea. The whole plain presents to the view an appearance of shifting sands, whose surface is broken by innumerable undulations and low hills. A few talk, tamarisk, and rethem trees grow among the sand hills; but the depth of sand precludes all vegetation of herbage. "Then cameª° the childrenª of Israel,ª [even] the whole¹ congregation,ª into the desertª of Zinª in the firstª month:ª and the peopleª abodeª° in Kadesh;ª and Miriamª diedª° there,¹ and was buriedª° there.¹" {Num 20:1} + "For¹ ye rebelled²° against¹ my commandmentª in the desertª of Zin,ª in the strifeª of the congregation,ª to sanctifyª° me at the waterª before their eyes:ª that¹ [is] the waterª of Meribahª in Kadeshª in the wildernessª of Zin.ª" {Num 27:14} + "And they removedª° from Eziongaber,ª¹ and pitchedª° in the wildernessª of Zin,ª which¹ [is] Kadesh.ª" {Num 33:36} + "Then your southª quarterª shall be¹ from the wildernessª¹ of Zinª along by¹ the coastª of Edom,ª and your southª borderª shall be¹ the outmost coastª¹ of the saltª seaª eastward:ª ... And your borderª shall turnª° from the southª¹ to the ascentª of Akrabbim,²¹ and pass onª° to Zin:ª and the going forthª thereof shall be¹ from the southª¹ to Kadeshbarnea,ª and shall go onª° to Hazaraddar,ª and pass onª° to Azmon:ª" {Num 34:3-4} + "Because¹¹ ye trespassedª° against me amongª the childrenª of Israelª at the watersª of Meribah-Kadesh,ª²¹ in the wildernessª of Zin;ª because¹¹ ye sanctifiedª° me not¹ in the midstª of the childrenª of Israel.ª" {Deu 32:51} + "[This] then was¹ the lotª of the tribeª of the childrenª of Judahª by their families;ª [even] to¹ the borderª of Edomª the wildernessª of Zinª southwardª [was] the uttermost partª¹ of the south coast.ª" {Jsh 15:1}
Rehob:
Rehob was a city, afterwards given to the tribe of Asher, situated near mount Lebanon, at the northern extremity of the Promised Land, on the road which leads to Hamath, and west of Laish or Dan. Compare "Neither¹ did Asherª drive outª°¹ the inhabitantsª° of Accho,ª nor the inhabitantsª° of Zidon,ª nor of Ahlab,ª nor of Achzib,ª nor of Helbah,ª nor of Aphik,ª nor of Rehob:ª" {Jdg 1:31} + "And [there was] no¹ deliverer,ª° because¹ it¹ [was] farª from Zidon,ª¹ and they had no¹ businessª with¹ [any] man;ª and it¹ was in the valleyª that¹ [lieth] by Bethrehob.ª And they builtª°¹ a city,ª and dweltª° therein." {Jdg 18:28} + "And Hebron,ª and Rehob,ª and Hammon,ª and Kanah,ª [even] unto¹ greatª Zidon;ª" {Jsh 19:28}.
Hamath:
"When Toiª kingª of Hamathª heardª° that¹ Davidª had smittenª°¹ all¹ the hostª of Hadadezer,ª" {2Sm 8:9} + "Passª° ye unto Calneh,ª and see;ª° and from thence¹¹ go²°¹ ye to Hamathª the great:ª°² then go downª° to Gathª of the Philistines:ª [be they] betterª than¹ these¹ kingdoms?ª or¹ their borderª greaterª than your border?ª¹" {Ams 6:2}
