There is certainly a considerable measure of weakness and unbelief manifested in these complaints and questions of Moses; but his conduct appears at the same time so very simple, honest, and affectionate, that we cannot but admire it, while we wonder that he had not stronger confidence in that God, whose stupendous miracles he had so often witnessed in Egypt. "Then a lordª on¹ whose¹ handª the kingª leanedª° answeredª°¹ the manª of God,ª and said,ª° Behold,¹ [if] the LORDª would makeª° windowsª in heaven,ª might this¹ thingª be?¹ And he said,ª° Behold,¹ thou shalt seeª° [it] with thine eyes,ª but shalt not¹ eatª° thereof.¹¹" {2Kg 7:2} + "Andª hisª disciplesª sayª° unto him,ª Whenceª should weª have so muchª breadª inª the wilderness,ª asª to fillª° so greatª a multitude?ª" {Mtt 15:33} + "¹ He¹ answeredª° and² saidª° unto them,ª Giveª° yeª themª to eat.²° And²¹ they¹ sayª° unto him,ª Shall we goª° and buyª° two hundredª pennyworthª of bread,ª andª giveª° themª to eat?ª°" {Mrk 6:37} + "Andª hisª disciplesª answeredª° him,ª From whenceª canª° a manª satisfyª° theseª [men] with breadª hereª inª the wilderness?ª" {Mrk 8:4} + "Andª Zachariasª saidª° untoª the¹ angel,ª Wherebyªª shall I knowª° this?ª forª Iª amª° an old man,ª andª myª wifeª well strickenª° inª years.ª²" {Lke 1:18} + "Thenª saidª° Maryª untoª the¹ angel,ª Howª shall²° thisª be,ª° seeingª I knowª° notª a man?ª" {Lke 1:34} + "Andª thisª he saidª° to proveª° him:ª forª he¹ himself² knewª° whatª he wouldª° do.ª° ... Philipª answeredª° him,ª Two hundredª pennyworthª of breadª is²° not² sufficientª°¹ for them,ª thatª every oneª of themª may takeª° a² little.ª¹" {Jhn 6:6-7} + "There isª° aª ladª here,ª whichª hathª° fiveª barleyª loaves,ª andª twoª small fishes:ª butª whatª areª° theyª amongª so many?ª" {Jhn 6:9} |
