- The Israelites had lain encamped in the wilderness of Sinai about eleven months and twenty days (comp. "In the thirdª month,ª when the childrenª of Israelª were gone forthª° out of the landª¹ of Egypt,ª the same¹ dayª cameª° they [into] the wildernessª of Sinai.ª" {Exd 19:1}); and they now received the order of God to decamp, and proceed to the promised land. The Samaritan, therefore, introduces at this place, nearly the words of "The LORDª our Godª spakeª° unto¹ us in Horeb,ª saying,ª° Ye have dweltª° long enoughª in this¹ mount:ª ... Behold,ª° I have setª°¹ the landª beforeª you: go²° in¹ and possessª°¹ the landª which¹ the LORDª swareª° unto your fathers,ª Abraham,ª Isaac,ª and Jacob,ª to giveª° unto them and to their seedª afterª them." {Deu 1:6-8} : "And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount; turn, and take your journey, etc." "And the LORDª spakeª° unto¹ Mosesª in the wildernessª of Sinai,ª in the tabernacleª of the congregation,ª on the firstª [day] of the secondª month,ª in the secondª yearª after they were come outª° of the landª¹ of Egypt,ª saying,ª°" {Num 1:1} + "And the LORDª spakeª° unto¹ Mosesª in the wildernessª of Sinai,ª in the firstª monthª of the secondª yearª after they were come outª° of the landª¹ of Egypt,ª saying,ª°" {Num 9:1} + "And they keptª°¹ the passoverª on the fourteenthªª dayª of the firstª monthª at¹ evenª in the wildernessª of Sinai:ª according to all¹ that¹ the LORDª commandedª°¹ Moses,ª so¹ didª° the childrenª of Israel.ª" {Num 9:5} + "The fourteenthªª dayª of the secondª monthª at¹ evenª they shall keepª° it, [and] eatª° it with¹ unleavened breadª and bitterª [herbs]." {Num 9:11} + "On the first² dayª¹¹ of the first²¹ monthª shalt thou set upª°¹ the tabernacleª of the tentª of the congregation.ª" {Exd 40:2}
