- shalt gather the whole:
- The words, kol âdath, which are rendered "the whole assembly," often signify all the elders, or principal persons in the several tribes ("Then shall he that offerethª° his offeringª unto the LORDª bringª° a meat offeringª of a tenth dealª of flourª mingledª° with the fourthª [part] of an hinª of oil.ª" {Num 15:4} + "And when Phinehas,ª the sonª of Eleazar,ª the sonª of Aaronª the priest,ª sawª° [it], he rose upª° from amongª¹ the congregation,ª and tookª° a javelinª in his hand;ª" {Num 25:7} + "And they shall be¹ unto you citiesª for refugeª from the avenger;ª°¹ that the manslayerª° dieª° not,¹ until¹ he standª° beforeª the congregationª in judgment.ª" {Num 35:12}). And they cannot well have any other sense here; for it would be impossible for all the children of Israel to put their hands on the Levites, as stated in the next verse. "And gatherª° thou all¹ the congregationª together²° unto¹ the doorª of the tabernacleª of the congregation.ª" {Lev 8:3}
