some part:
Though the words "some part" are not expressed, yet it is generally allowed that they should be supplied here; as it was not lawful for a man to alienate in this manner his whole patrimony. He might express his good will for the house of God but he must not impoverish his own family.

of a field:
"¹ Neitherª ² wasª ° there anyª amongª themª that lacked:ª forª as many asª wereª ° possessorsª of landsª orª housesª sold¹ them,² ° and broughtª ° the¹ pricesª of the things that were sold,ª ° ... an homer:
or, the land of an homer, etc. i.e. as much land as required a homer of barley to sow it, The homer was very different from the omer; the latter held about three quarts, the former seventy-five gallons three pints. "Yea,ª tenª acresª of vineyardª shall yieldª ° oneª bath,ª and the seedª of an homerª shall yieldª ° an ephah.ª" {Isa 5:10} + "The ephahª and the bathª shall be¹ of oneª measure,ª that the bathª may containª ° the tenth partª of an homer,ª and the ephahª the tenth partª of an homer:ª the measureª thereof shall be¹ after¹ the homer.ª ...
