This was literally fulfilled at the siege of Jerusalem. Josephus gives a dreadful detail respecting a woman named Mary, who, in the extremity of the famine, during the seige, killed her sucking child, roasted, and had eaten part of it, when discovered by the soldiers! "And thou shalt eatª° the fruitª of thine own body,ª the fleshª of thy sonsª and of thy daughters,ª which¹ the LORDª thy Godª hath givenª° thee, in the siege,ª and in the straitness,ª wherewith¹ thine enemiesª° shall distressª° thee: ... And toward her young oneª that cometh outª° from between¹¹ her feet,ª and toward her childrenª which¹ she shall bear:ª° for¹ she shall eatª° them for wantª of all¹ [things] secretlyª in the siegeª and straitness,ª wherewith¹ thine enemyª° shall distressª° thee in thy gates.ª" {Deu 28:53-57} + "And the kingª saidª° unto her, What¹ aileth thee? And she answered,ª° This¹ womanª saidª° unto¹ me, Giveª°¹ thy son,ª that we may eatª° him to day,ª and we will eatª° my sonª to morrow.ª ...
