- seven days:
- It was necessary for the mother's health that the young one should suck so long; and prior to this time, the process of nutrition in a young animal can scarcely be considered as completely formed. Besides this, it may justly be asserted, that the flesh of very young animals is comparatively innutritive. There is something brutish in eating the young of beast or fowl, before the hair and hoofs are perfect in the one, and feathers and claws in the other; and before this period, their flesh is not good for food, consequently they were not fit for sacrifice, which is termed the bread or food of God ("Neither¹ from a stranger's² handªª¹¹ shall ye offerª°¹ the breadª of your Godª of any¹¹ of these;¹ because¹ their corruptionª [is] in them, [and] blemishesª [be] in them: they shall not¹ be acceptedª° for you." {Lev 22:25}). "Neither¹ from a stranger's² handªª¹¹ shall ye offerª°¹ the breadª of your Godª of any¹¹ of these;¹ because¹ their corruptionª [is] in them, [and] blemishesª [be] in them: they shall not¹ be acceptedª° for you." {Lev 22:25} + "Speakª° unto¹ the childrenª of Israel,ª saying,ª° If¹ a womanª have conceived seed,ª° and bornª° a man child:ª then she shall be uncleanª° sevenª days;ª according to the daysª of the separationª for her infirmityª° shall she be unclean.ª° ... And in the eighthª dayª the fleshª of his foreskinª shall be circumcised.ª°" {Lev 12:2-3} + "And when¹ ye shall comeª° into¹ the land,ª and shall have plantedª° all manner¹ of treesª for food,ª then ye shall countª°¹ the fruitª thereof as uncircumcised:²°²¹ threeª yearsª shall it be¹ as uncircumcisedª unto you: it shall not¹ be eatenª° of. ... But in the fourthª yearª all¹ the fruitª thereof shall be¹ holyª to praiseª the LORDª [withal]." {Lev 19:23-24} + "Likewiseª shalt thou doª° with thine oxen,ª [and] with thy sheep:ª sevenª daysª it shall be¹ with¹ his dam;ª on the eighthª dayª thou shalt giveª° it me." {Exd 22:30}
