- the offering:
- This oblation, which the Jews call a mincha of initiation, seems to have been required of the high priest alone "on the day in which he was anointed," and from that time, every morning and evening, as long as he continued in office, and then in like manner of his successor; for, by "the sons of Aaron," may be understood his descendants and successors in the high priesthood, in their generations. "And unleavenedª bread,ª and cakesª unleavenedª temperedª° with oil,ª and wafersª unleavenedª anointedª° with oil:ª [of] wheatenª flourª shalt thou makeª° them." {Exd 29:2} + "Thus speakª° unto¹ the Levites,ª and sayª° unto¹ them, When¹ ye takeª° of¹¹ the childrenª of Israelª¹ the tithesª which¹ I have givenª° you from¹¹ them for your inheritance,ª then ye shall offer²° up¹ an heave offeringª of¹ it for the LORD,ª [even] a tenthª [part] of¹ the tithe.ª ... And ye shall bearª° no¹ sinª by reason of¹ it, when ye have heavedª° from it¹ the bestª of¹ it: neither¹ shall ye polluteª° the holy thingsª of the childrenª of Israel,ª lest¹ ye die.ª°" {Num 18:26-32} + "Forª everyª high priestª takenª° from amongª menª is ordainedª° forª menª in things¹ [pertaining] toª God,ª thatª he may offerª° bothª giftsª andª sacrificesª forª sins:ª" {Hbr 5:1} + "Whoª needethªª° notª daily,ªª asª those high priests,ª to offer upª° sacrifice,ª firstª forª his ownª sins,ª and thenª for¹ the¹ people's:ª forª thisª he didª° once,ª when he offered upª° himself.ª" {Hbr 7:27} + "Forª everyª high priestª is ordainedª° to² offerª°¹ giftsª andª² sacrifices:ª whereforeª [it is] of necessityª that this manª haveª° somewhatª¹ alsoª to² offer.ª° ... Forª ifª² he¹ wereª° onª earth,ª he should² notª beª°¹ a priest,ª seeing that there areª° priestsª that offerª° giftsª accordingª to the¹ law:ª" {Hbr 8:3-4}
