- rams' skins dyed red:
- This was the third covering of the tabernacle. The first and lowermost was made of fine linen, richly embroidered with figures of cherubim, in shades of blue, purple, and scarlet ("And every¹ wiseª hearted¹ man² among them that wroughtª° the workª of¹ the tabernacleª madeª° tenª curtainsª [of] fine twined²° linen,ª¹ and blue,ª and purple,ª and scarlet:ªª [with] cherubimsª of cunningª° workª madeª° he them. ... And he madeª° fiftyª tachesª of gold,ª and coupledª°¹ the curtainsª oneª unto¹ anotherª with the taches:ª so it became¹ oneª tabernacle.ª" {Exd 36:8-13}). It is reasonable to suppose, that the right side of this curtain was undermost, and so it formed a beautiful ceiling in the inside of the tabernacle. The second covering, which lay over the embroidered one, was made of a sort of mohair ("And he madeª° curtainsª [of] goats'ª [hair] for the tentª over¹ the tabernacle:ª elevenªª curtainsª he madeª° them. ... And he madeª° fiftyª loopsª upon¹ the uttermostª edgeª of the curtainª in the coupling,ª and fiftyª loopsª madeª° he upon¹ the edgeª of the curtainª which couplethª the second.ª" {Exd 36:14-17}), and the fourth, or uppermost one, which was to keep the others from the weather, was made of tachash, or badgers' skins.
