Cross Reference EXODUS 30:1 AND THOU SHALT MAKE AN ALTAR TO BURN INCENSE UPON OF SHITTIM WOOD SHALT THOU MAKE IT

{Exodus 30:1} And thou shalt make 6213 z8804 an altar 4196 to burn 4729 incense 7004 upon: [of] shittim 7848 wood 6086 shalt thou make 6213 z8799 it.

The Samaritan inserts the first ten verses of this chapter after "And thou shalt hangª ° it upon¹ fourª pillarsª of shittimª [wood] overlaidª ° with gold:ª their hooksª [shall be of] gold,ª upon¹ the fourª socketsª of silver.ª" {Exd 26:32}.

an altar:
"And Aaronª shall burnª ° thereon¹ sweetª incenseª every morning:ª when he dressethª °¹ the lamps,ª he shall burn incenseª ° upon it. ... And when Aaronª lightethª °¹ the lampsª at¹ even,ª he shall burn incenseª ° upon it, a perpetualª incenseª beforeª the LORDª throughout your generations.ª" {Exd 30:7-8} + "And Aaronª shall make an atonementª ° upon¹ the hornsª of it onceª in a yearª with the bloodª ¹ of the sin offeringª of atonements:ª onceª in the yearª shall he make atonementª ° upon¹ it throughout your generations:ª it¹ [is] most² holyª unto the LORD.ª" {Exd 30:10} + "And he madeª °¹ the incenseª altarª [of] shittimª wood:ª the lengthª of it [was] a cubit,ª and the breadthª of it a cubit;ª [it was] foursquare;ª ° and two cubitsª [was] the heightª of it; the hornsª thereof were¹ of¹ the same. ... And he madeª °¹ the stavesª [of] shittimª wood,ª and overlaidª ° them with gold.ª" {Exd 37:25-28} + "And thou shalt setª °¹ the altarª of goldª for the incenseª beforeª the arkª of the testimony,ª and putª °¹ the hangingª of the doorª to the tabernacle.ª" {Exd 40:5} + "And the priestª shall putª ° [some] of¹ the bloodª upon¹ the hornsª of the altarª of sweetª incenseª beforeª the LORD,ª which¹ [is] in the tabernacleª of the congregation;ª and shall pourª ° all¹ the bloodª of the bullockª at¹ the bottomª of the altarª of the burnt offering,ª which¹ [is at] the doorª of the tabernacleª of the congregation.ª" {Lev 4:7} + "And he shall putª ° [some] of¹ the bloodª upon¹ the hornsª of the altarª which¹ [is] beforeª the LORD,ª that¹ [is] in the tabernacleª of the congregation,ª and shall pour outª ° all¹ the bloodª at¹ the bottomª of the altarª of the burnt offering,ª which¹ [is at] the doorª of the tabernacleª of the congregation.ª" {Lev 4:18} + "And the oracleª in the forepartª [was] twentyª cubitsª in length,ª and twentyª cubitsª in breadth,ª and twentyª cubitsª in the heightª thereof: and he overlaidª ° it with pureª ° gold;ª and [so] coveredª ° the altarª [which was of] cedar.ª" {1Kg 6:20} + "But when he was strong,² ¹ his heartª was lifted upª ° to¹ [his] destruction:ª ° for he transgressedª ° against the LORDª his God,ª and wentª ° into¹ the templeª of the LORDª to burn incenseª ° upon¹ the altarª of incense.ª" {2Ch 26:16} + "Andª anotherª angelª cameª ° andª stoodª ° atª the¹ altar,ª havingª ° a goldenª censer;ª andª there was givenª ° unto himª muchª incense,ª thatª he should offerª ° [it] with the¹ prayersª of allª saintsª uponª the¹ goldenª altarª whichª was beforeª the¹ throne.ª" {Rev 8:3}

to burn incense:
Where so many sacrifices were offered, it was essentially necessary to have some pleasing perfume to counteract the disagreeable smells that must have arisen from the slaughter of so many animals, the burning of so much flesh, the sprinkling of the blood. No blood was ever sprinkled on this altar, except once a year, on the grand day of expiation. It was called also the golden altar ("And upon¹ the goldenª altarª they shall spreadª ° a clothª of blue,ª and coverª ° it with a coveringª of badgers'ª skins,ª and shall put² °¹ ¹ to the stavesª thereof:" {Num 4:11}); and the incense was as constantly burnt on it every day, as the morning and evening sacrifice of a lamb was burnt on the brazen altar.
