- mitre:
- Mitznepheth, from tzanaph, to wrap round, evidently means that covering of the head so universal in eastern countries, which we call turband, which consists of a cap, and a sash of fine linen or silk wound round its bottom. "And thou shalt makeª° a plateª [of] pureª gold,ª and graveª° upon¹ it, [like] the engravingsª of a signet,ª HOLINESSª TO THE LORD.ª ... And thou shalt embroiderª° the coatª of fine linen,ª and thou shalt makeª° the mitreª [of] fine linen,ª and thou shalt makeª° the girdleª [of] needlework.ªª°" {Exd 28:36-39} + "And he putª°¹ the mitreª upon¹ his head;ª also upon¹ the mitre,ª [even] upon¹ his forefront,ªª did he putª°¹ the goldenª plate,ª the holyª crown;ª as¹ the LORDª commandedª°¹ Moses.ª" {Lev 8:9}
