on the shoulder pieces:
"It shall have¹ the twoª shoulderpiecesª thereof joinedª° at¹ the twoª edgesª thereof; and [so] it shall be joined together.ª°" {Exd 28:7}
of the ephod:
"They madeª° shoulderpiecesª for it, to couple [it] together:ª° by¹ the twoª edgesª°² was it coupled together.ª°" {Exd 39:4}
