- a topaz:
- Pitdah, is constantly rendered by the LXX τοπαζιον, and Vulgate, topazius, with which agrees Josephus. The topaz is a precious stone, of a pale, dead green, with a mixture of yellow, sometimes of a fine yellow; and hence called chrysolyte by the moderns, from its gold colour. "The topazª of Ethiopiaª shall not¹ equalª° it, neither¹ shall it be valuedª° with pureª gold.ª" {Job 28:19} + "The¹ fifth,ª sardonyx;ª the¹ sixth,ª sardius;ª the¹ seventh,ª chrysolite;ª the¹ eighth,ª beryl;ª the¹ ninth,ª a topaz;ª the¹ tenth,ª a chrysoprasus;ª the¹ eleventh,ª a jacinth;ª the¹ twelfth,ª an amethyst.ª" {Rev 21:20}
