- rams' skins dyed red:
- Oroth ailim meoddamim, literally, the skins of red rams. It is a fact, attested by many respectable travellers, that in the Levant, sheep are often met with having red or violet coloured fleeces. Almost all ancient writers speak of the same thing. "And rams'ª skinsª dyed red,ª° and badgers'ª skins,ª and shittimª wood,ª" {Exd 25:5} + "And rams'ª skinsª dyed red,ª° and badgers'ª skins,ª and shittimª wood,ª" {Exd 35:7} + "And every¹ man,ª with¹ whom¹ was foundª° blue,ª and purple,ª and scarlet,ªª and fine linen,ª and goats'ª [hair], and redª° skinsª of rams,ª and badgers'ª skins,ª broughtª° [them]." {Exd 35:23} + "And the coveringª of rams'ª skinsª dyed red,ª° and the coveringª of badgers'ª skins,ª and the vailª of the covering,ª" {Exd 39:34} + "And they shall putª° it and all¹ the vesselsª thereof within¹ a coveringª of badgers'ª skins,ª and shall putª° [it] upon¹ a bar.ª" {Num 4:10} + "I clothedª° thee also with broidered work,ª and shodª° thee with badgers' skin,ª and I girded²° thee about¹ with fine linen,ª and I coveredª° thee with silk.ª" {Ezk 16:10}
