- an ark:
- Aron denotes a chest, or coffer, in general; but is applied particularly to the chest or ark in which the testimony or two tables of the covenant were laid up; on the top of which was the propitiatory or mercy seat; and at the end of which were the cherubim of gold; between whom the visible sign of the presence of God appeared as seated upon his throne. "And Bezaleelª madeª°¹ the arkª [of] shittimª wood:ª two cubitsª and a halfª [was] the lengthª of it, and a cubitª and a halfª the breadthª of it, and a cubitª and a halfª the heightª of it: ... And he castª° for it fourª ringsª of gold,ª [to be set] by¹ the fourª cornersª of it; even twoª ringsª upon¹ the oneª sideª of it, and twoª ringsª upon¹ the otherª sideª of it." {Exd 37:1-3} + "At that¹ timeª the LORDª saidª° unto¹ me, Hewª° thee twoª tablesª of stoneª like unto the first,ª and come upª° unto¹ me into the mount,ª and makeª° thee an arkª of wood.ª ... And I madeª° an arkª [of] shittimª wood,ª and hewedª° twoª tablesª of stoneª like unto the first,ª and went upª° into the mount,ª having the twoª tablesª in mine hand.ª" {Deu 10:1-3} + "And Solomonª brought upª° the daughterª of Pharaohª out of the cityª¹ of Davidª unto the houseª that¹ he had builtª° for her: for¹ he said,ª° My wifeª shall not¹ dwellª° in the houseª of Davidª kingª of Israel,ª because¹ [the places are] holy,ª whereunto¹¹ the arkª of the LORDª hath come.ª°" {2Ch 8:11} + "Which hadª° the goldenª censer,ª andª the¹ arkª of the¹ covenantª overlaidª° round aboutª with gold,²¹ whereinªª [was] the golden²¹ potª that hadª° manna,ª andª Aaron'sª rodª that budded,ª° andª the¹ tablesª of the¹ covenant;ª" {Hbr 9:4} + "Andª the¹ templeª of Godª was openedª° inª heaven,ª andª there was seenª° inª his²¹ templeª the¹ arkª of his²¹ testament:ª andª there wereª° lightnings,ª andª voices,ª andª thunderings,ª andª an earthquake,ª andª greatª hail.ª" {Rev 11:19}
