- hornets:
- Tzirâh, The hornet, may be so called from the Arabic zaraâ, to lay prostrate, strike down, because of the destruction occasioned by the violence of its sting. The hornet, in natural history, belongs to the species Crabro, of the genus Vespa or Wasp. It is a most voracious insect, and exceedingly strong for its size, which is generally an inch in length. "Moreover¹ the LORDª thy Godª will sendª°¹ the hornetª among them, until¹ they that are left,ª° and hide²° themselves¹ fromª¹ thee, be destroyed.ª°" {Deu 7:20} + "And ye went overª°¹ Jordan,ª and cameª° unto¹ Jericho:ª and the menª of Jerichoª foughtª° against you, the Amorites,ª and the Perizzites,ª and the Canaanites,ª and the Hittites,ª and the Girgashites,ª the Hivites,ª and the Jebusites;ª and I deliveredª° them into your hand.ª" {Jsh 24:11}
