- Thy signet:
- Chothem, or chothemeth, as in "When she¹ [was] brought forth,ª° she¹ sentª° to¹ her father in law,ª saying,ª° By the man,ª whose¹ these¹ [are, am] I¹ with child:ª and she said,ª° Discern,ª° I pray thee,¹ whose¹ [are] these,¹ the signet,ª and bracelets,ª and staff.ª" {Gen 38:25}, is properly a ring-seal, with which impressions were made to ascertain property, etc. From "[As] I¹ live,ª saithª° the LORD,ª though¹¹ Coniahª the sonª of Jehoiakimª kingª of Judahª were¹ the signetª upon¹ my rightª hand,ª yet¹ would I pluckª° thee thence;¹¹" {Jer 22:24}, we find that it was worn on the hand; though it might also have been suspended from the neck by a ribband, as the Arabs still wear it. "When she¹ [was] brought forth,ª° she¹ sentª° to¹ her father in law,ª saying,ª° By the man,ª whose¹ these¹ [are, am] I¹ with child:ª and she said,ª° Discern,ª° I pray thee,¹ whose¹ [are] these,¹ the signet,ª and bracelets,ª and staff.ª ... And Judahª acknowledgedª° [them], and said,ª° She hath been more righteousª° than¹ I; because¹ that¹¹ I gaveª° her not¹ to Shelahª my son.ª And he knew¹ her²° againª° no¹ more.¹" {Gen 38:25-26} + "[As] I¹ live,ª saithª° the LORD,ª though¹¹ Coniahª the sonª of Jehoiakimª kingª of Judahª were¹ the signetª upon¹ my rightª hand,ª yet¹ would I pluckª° thee thence;¹¹" {Jer 22:24} + "Butª the¹ fatherª saidª° toª his²¹ servants,ª Bring forthª° the¹ bestª robe,ª andª put [it] onª° him;ª andª putª° a ringª onª hisª hand,ª andª shoesª onª [his] feet:ª" {Lke 15:22}
