- Thy signet:
- Chothem, or chothemeth, as in "When she¹ [was] brought forth,ªº she¹ sentªº to¹ her father in law,ª saying,ªº By the man,ª whose¹ these¹ [are, am] I¹ with child:ª and she said,ªº Discern,ªº I pray thee,¹ whose¹ [are] these,¹ the signet,ª and bracelets,ª and staff.ª" {Gen 38:25}, is properly a ring-seal, with which impressions were made to ascertain property, etc. From "[As] I¹ live,ª saithªº the LORD,ª though¹¹ Coniahª the sonª of Jehoiakimª kingª of Judahª were¹ the signetª upon¹ my rightª hand,ª yet¹ would I pluckªº thee thence;¹¹" {Jer 22:24}, we find that it was worn on the hand; though it might also have been suspended from the neck by a ribband, as the Arabs still wear it. "When she¹ [was] brought forth,ªº she¹ sentªº to¹ her father in law,ª saying,ªº By the man,ª whose¹ these¹ [are, am] I¹ with child:ª and she said,ªº Discern,ªº I pray thee,¹ whose¹ [are] these,¹ the signet,ª and bracelets,ª and staff.ª ... And Judahª acknowledgedªº [them], and said,ªº She hath been more righteousªº than¹ I; because¹ that¹¹ I gaveªº her not¹ to Shelahª my son.ª And he knew¹ her²º againªº no¹ more.¹" {Gen 38:25-26} + "[As] I¹ live,ª saithªº the LORD,ª though¹¹ Coniahª the sonª of Jehoiakimª kingª of Judahª were¹ the signetª upon¹ my rightª hand,ª yet¹ would I pluckªº thee thence;¹¹" {Jer 22:24} + "Butª the¹ fatherª saidªº toª his²¹ servants,ª Bring forthªº the¹ bestª robe,ª andª put [it] onªº him;ª andª putªº a ringª onª hisª hand,ª andª shoesª onª [his] feet:ª" {Lke 15:22}
