This was a princely present. The "thirty milch camels" were particularly valuable; for among the Arabs they constitute a principal part of their riches; being every way so serviceable, that the providence of God appears peculiarly kind and wise in providing such animals for those countries, where no other animal could be of equal service. The she-camel gives milk continually, not ceasing even when with young; the milk of which, when mixed with three parts of water, affords the most pleasant and wholesome beverage. "And the manª increasedª° exceedingly,ª and had¹ muchª cattle,ª and maidservants,ª and menservants,ª and camels,ª and asses.ª" {Gen 30:43} + "Thus Godª hath taken awayª°¹ the cattleª of your father,ª and givenª° [them] to me." {Gen 31:9} + "For¹ all¹ the richesª which¹ Godª hath takenª° from our father,ª¹ that¹ [is] ours, and our children's:ª now¹ then, whatsoever¹¹ Godª hath saidª° unto¹ thee, do.ª°" {Gen 31:16} + "But thou shalt rememberª°¹ the LORDª thy God:ª for¹ [it is] he¹ that givethª° thee powerª to getª° wealth,ª that¹ he may establishª°¹ his covenantª which¹ he swareª° unto thy fathers,ª as [it is] this¹ day.ª" {Deu 8:18} + "And [there was] a manª in Maon,ª whose possessionsª [were] in Carmel;ª and the manª [was] veryª great,ª and he had threeª thousandª sheep,ª and a thousandª goats:ª and he was¹ shearingª°¹ his sheepª in Carmel.ª" {1Sm 25:2} + "His substanceª also was¹ sevenª thousandª sheep,ª and threeª thousandª camels,ª and fiveª hundredª yokeª of oxen,ª and fiveª hundredª she asses,ª and a veryª greatª household;ª so that this¹ manª was¹ the greatestª of all¹¹ the menª of the east.ª" {Job 1:3} + "So the LORDª blessedª°¹ the latter endª of Jobª more than his beginning:ª¹ for he had¹ fourteenªª thousandª sheep,ª and sixª thousandª camels,ª and a thousandª yokeª of oxen,ª and a thousandª she asses.ª" {Job 42:12} |
