- precious:
- This term, rendered "precious things," as may be seen in the parallel texts, is used to express exquisite fruits or delicacies, and precious plants or flowers, but here it may mean gifts in general, though rather of an inferior kind to those mentioned above. "And of Josephª he said,ª° Blessedª° of the LORDª [be] his land,ª for the precious thingsª¹ of heaven,ª for the dew,ª¹ and for the deepª¹ that coucheth¹ beneath,²°¹ ... And for the precious thingsª¹ of the earthª and fulnessª thereof, and [for] the good willª of him that dweltª° in the bush:ª let [the blessing] comeª° upon the headª of Joseph,ª and upon the top of the headª of him [that was] separatedª from his brethren.ª" {Deu 33:13-16} + "And their fatherª gaveª° them greatª giftsª of silver,ª and of gold,ª and of precious things,ª with¹ fencedª citiesª in Judah:ª but the kingdomª gaveª° he to Jehoram;ª because¹ he¹ [was] the firstborn.ª" {2Ch 21:3} + "And all¹ they that [were] aboutª them strengthenedª° their handsª with vesselsª of silver,ª with gold,ª with goods,ª and with beasts,ª and with precious things,ª beside all¹¹¹ [that] was willingly offered.ª°" {Ezr 1:6} + "Thy plantsª [are] an orchardª of pomegranates,ª with¹ pleasantª fruits;ª camphire,ª with¹ spikenard,ª" {Sgs 4:13} + "And Hezekiahª was gladª° of¹ them, and shewedª° them¹ the houseª of his precious things,ª¹ the silver,ª and the gold,ª and the spices,ª and the preciousª ointment,ª and all¹ the houseª of his armour,ª and all¹ that¹ was foundª° in his treasures:ª there was¹ nothingª¹ in his house,ª nor in all¹ his dominion,ª that¹ Hezekiahª shewedª° them not.¹" {Isa 39:2}
