- Laban:
- These seem both to be brothers, of whom Laban was the eldest and chief. The opinion of Josephus appears to be very correct, that Bethuel, the father, had been dead some time. "And it came to pass,¹ before¹ he¹ had doneª° speaking,ª° that, behold,¹ Rebekahª came out,ª° whoª was bornª° to Bethuel,ª sonª of Milcah,ª the wifeª of Nahor,ª Abraham'sª brother,ª with her pitcherª upon¹ her shoulder.ª" {Gen 24:15} + "And the damselª ran,ª° and toldª° [them of] her mother'sª houseª these¹ things.ª" {Gen 24:28} + "And the servantª brought forthª° jewelsª of silver,ª and jewelsª of gold,ª and raiment,ª and gaveª° [them] to Rebekah:ª he gaveª° also to her brotherª and to her motherª precious things.ª" {Gen 24:53} + "And her brotherª and her motherª said,ª° Let the damselª abideª° with¹ us [a few] days,ª at the leastª ten;ª after² that¹ she shall go.²°¹" {Gen 24:55} + "And they blessedª°¹ Rebekah,ª and saidª° unto her, Thouª [art] our sister,ª be¹ thou²° [the mother] of thousandsª of millions,ª and let thy seedª possessª°¹ the gateª of those which hateª° them." {Gen 24:60}
