slime pits, Places where asphaltus or bitumen sprung out of the ground: this substance which is properly denoted by the word "slime," abounds in these parts. "And they saidª ° oneª to¹ another,ª Go to,ª ° let us makeª ° brick,ª and burnª ° them throughly.ª And they had¹ brickª for stone,ª and slimeª hadª ° they for morter.ª" {Gen 11:3}

fell:

the mountain:
